JANUARY
2013 has been a fantastic year so far. Gemma's blood sugars have been really great, with the occasional high and low - showing us that her HI is still there, but on a much much milder scale and now with the advantage that if she goes low she reacts accordingly.
I started homeschooling a week ago and that too is going well so far. My intention was to just school Gemma for this year, but Bryce sits in for most of the lessons, and the two of them work very well together. We're all enjoying the experience together, whilst I'll be doing most of the teaching, Michael will be the official sports coach. On their first afternoon of school they swam, played tennis, baseball and a bit of soccer.
It's been Bryce's turn for a little bit of attention. He spiked a major fever, but with no other symptoms. This lasted through the night and then into the following day with him responding to fever medicine, but the fever spiking again. I brought him through to Bloemfontein, and kept asking him on the journey, if he was feeling better. His response was always that he was feeling fine. I was assuming that it was Murphy's law and that by the time we would get to the doctor it would be a false alarm, but when I got him out the car he was extremely hot, and his temp was very close to 40 when it was taken a few minutes later. A suppository given to him, sorted out the fever almost immediately and he was administered antibiotics to be taken for the next few days. Our brave little boy.
Just over 6 months ago we had no idea what the outcome of her surgery would be. Had we known for sure that her quality of life would be this wonderful, we wouldn't have been so frightened. She is still enjoying food, with the slight disadvantage of her now enjoying the wrong kinds of food, but like all of us - its ok to have a little treat once in a while. She still doesn't enjoy drinking anything else besides water - which is wonderful.
May 2013 be a blessed year for you, and may we continue to have good stories to share for the rest of it.
